Kara: First question and first Anon! Haha Hi! :D
Since I’m pretty sure Paj will want to add something to this, I’ll answer it in a way she can also add what she thinks.
We were actually in the same school for YEARS. Paj was there since Kinder (or was that Prep?) and I entered the school in Grade 1. We were also in the same ballet school and had some classes together but I still mark the very start of our friendship was when I asked her one question… “Do you watch Digimon Tamers?”
Hahaha, I still grin at the memory especially since I thought she was a “quiet” type of person. I also have a really bad memory for people’s names and faces when I was younger and I seriously didn’t realize that Paj was the same person I used to tease in ballet school! (I’m sure Paj will give you details about what I mean here.) It didn’t help how I was never her classmate either or the fact I preferred being alone when I was younger.
Long story short, we bonded through anime, phone calls, spazzing moments, and later on books, art, dramas, and etc. She was the first person I met who was willing to stay on the phone with me for five hours or more! We were able to share each other’s thoughts, opinions and ideas very well —- I personally think what was what deepened our friendship. We also have our own individual strengths and preference in the arts which somehow compliment each other.
Pajie: Ahahaha. So… The ballet thing.
We formally met in ballet school. I started a year or two later than Kara, so she was in a class that was more advanced than mine… But halfway through my first year, my teachers figured that I was ready to leave the beginner class early and threw me into Kara’s class just in time for our summer recital. It was called “Disney On Stage” and our class danced to “Little April Shower” from Bambi. Hahahaha. :]
She used to torture me in class… She called me “Little Girl” (because she thought I was much younger than her), chased me around, and made creepy roaring sounds while doing so… Earning her the nickname “Tiger.”
But yes, we were put in the same class section for the first time during the sixth grade and it was Digimon Tamers that solidified our friendship. My younger sister insists on taking credit for this friendship because she was the one who kept pestering me to watch the show. In fact, whenever I would send her birthday cards/emails I always make sure to add in a line saying: “I will forever be grateful to Cartoon Network for airing Digimon Tamers.”
So there you have it! You probably didn’t expect a novel for an answer, but this is essentially the dorky start of our even dorkier friendship. :]
P.S. Kara is the ONLY person I like sharing phone conversations with. Upon moving to the States, I realized that I can’t stand talking to people over the phone for more than 5 minutes… Let alone for 5 whole hours. Hahaha.
Ah, friendship. :))
